Those with a qualifying physical/mental condition can seek SSI

While most people in Georgia eventually get a job, some have physical or mental limitations that keep them from being able to work, meaning they never paid into the Social Security system. While this means that they would not be able to seek Social Security Disability (SSD) benefits, they may still be able to seek Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits.

When is an amputation necessary and what are some complications?

Sometimes, a person in Atlanta suffers such a severe injury or illness that they need a limb amputated. There are many reasons why people get amputations. For those in the military, a combat injury could result in an amputation. A person may also need an amputation if they were in a serious car crash. Other reasons for amputation include cancer, infections, burns, diabetes and frostbite. In the end, though, amputations become necessary when there is insufficient blood flow to a person's limbs, resulting in infection and tissue death.

What is included in a consultative exam for disability benefits?

People in Georgia and across the nation who are applying for Social Security Disability (SSD) benefits need to provide the Social Security Administration (SSA) with the medical evidence necessary to prove an impairment exists, rendering them unable to work. If the SSA finds that the evidence submitted from the applicant's medical source is insufficient for the SSA to decide whether the applicant has such an impairment, the SSA may ask the applicant to undergo a consultative exam.
